Overview
After action in the House on the reconciliation legislation that is now law during the recess week of July 4th, the House took last week as a recess. While the House recessed, the Senate held session to move nominations. The Senate moved forward several nominations including cloture (limits further debate) on the first judge of the 119th Congress. By a vote of 51-43, the Senate invoked cloture on Whitney D. Hermandorfer to be U.S. Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit. Other nominations included Jonathan Gould’s confirmation as Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) by a vote of 50-45, William Briggs to be Deputy Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA) by a vote of 49-45, and Scott Kupor as Director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) on a 49-46 vote.
